Troon lifeboat volunteer takes on the RNLI Mayday Mile

Lifeboats News Release

This May, RNLI supporters are coming together to take on the Mayday Mile, completing a mile a day in their own way to help raise funds for RNLI lifesavers. Every mile is a simple way to stand alongside our crews and show your support.

When the pager sounds, RNLI volunteers don’t hesitate! They make their way quickly to the lifeboat station, ready to launch and help someone who may be facing one of the most difficult moments of their life. Your support helps ensure our volunteers have the training, kit and equipment they need to continue saving lives at sea.

One of our volunteers Jenn Tweedie is completing her own Mayday mile challenge for the RNLI. Jenn is proud to be part of our lifeboat crew and this challenge is her own way of giving even more back to the lifesaving service she’s part of.

Jenn said, 'Across the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands, RNLI lifeboat crews helped 8,290 people and saved 272 lives as the charity’s lifeboats launched more than 9,000 times in 2025, making it the sixth-busiest year in the charity’s history.

'As a volunteer crew member I’m very aware of the high demand on lifeboat crews across the charity’s 238 lifeboat stations and, as we are heading towards our busiest time of year, completing the Mayday Mile helps to raise the funds that will allow us to be there when we’re needed most.'
