Graeme, after interview and an afloat assessment, was appointed as the stations new full time Coxswain replacing Josh Middleton who has taken up a Fleet Staff Coxswain role using his experience to support crews across different stations throughout the UK.

On becoming Coxswain, Graeme said, ‘It’s an honour to take on this role and I’m looking forward to keeping up the high standards and lifesaving traditions at Troon RNLI lifeboat station. We have a fantastic team of volunteers at Troon and I’m excited to take on this new challenge.’

As full-time Coxswain, Graeme’s time will be divided between ensuring the lifeboat station, and our RNLI Shannon class all-weather lifeboat and its associated equipment operate to the highest order, alongside the training and assessment of our volunteer crew to the RNLI’s competence standards.

Josh Middleton said, 'Graeme has been an integral part crew at Troon since joining in 2018, and it has been enjoyable to work alongside him for the last year in his full-time mechanics role. On behalf of everyone at Troon lifeboat station I would like to wish him well in his new position.’

Jim Redmond, Troon Lifeboat Operations Manager added, ‘On behalf of everyone at Troon Lifeboat Station, I wish Josh all the very best in his new role with the RNLI and I would like to thank him for all he has done at Troon. I am delighted that Graeme has been appointed to the full-time Coxswains’ role. He has been very committed and worked extremely hard throughout his training.'

On Friday 20 March 2026, representatives from the station, and crew held a farewell dinner for Josh to thank him for his service to Troon Lifeboat.
