Mike was appointed an Education Volunteer back in 2014 and then became station Community Safety Officer in August 2016 before being appointed station chairman in 2018.

Mike took on the role wholeheartedly, chairing meetings, supporting the volunteers in the organisation and delivery of events, fundraising and raising awareness of the RNLI.

He also chaired the RNLI North and East Region Bicentennial Committee during the 200th anniversary of the RNLI.

Mike was an active part of the sea faring community in Whitby and shared his knowledge and expertise with many local organisations such as the rowing clubs and Whitby Regatta.

He will carry on supporting the RNLI from his home in the Wales, West and Isle of Man Region as an Education and Water Safety Volunteer.

Senior station technician Richard Dowson said: 'We would like to thank Mike for his friendship, time and dedication over the last ten years. Mike has been a great support to both the crew and Friends of Whitby Lifeboat.'

We welome Nicola Narey from our station visits team who has taken over Mike's role and we wish her luck in her new position.
