Swanage Lifeboat launches to a medical emergency
A young sailor on board a sail training vessel had taken a fall, hit their head and needed urgent evacuation. Swanage all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was tasked to the casualty.
At 11:09 a.m. the lifeboat had located the yacht and two crew members, both trained in Casualty Care, boarded the vessel to make an assessment of the casualty. It was not long before the casualty was transferred to the ALB and best speed was made through the waves and swell to a rendezvous with paramedics and a HM Coastguard Rescue Team on Swanage Pier. The casualty was handed over to the ambulance paramedic and escorted ashore for further treatment.
At 12:02 p.m. the ALB was released from service and made the short trip round the pier back to Swanage Lifeboat Station.
ALB Crew: (Coxn) Gavin Steeden, Dave Turnbull, Steve Williams, Tom Greasty, Neil Brooks, Scott Turner
