Fathers day put on hold for Tenby volunteers

Father’s Day celebrations were interrupted for several crew members this afternoon when they responded to a Coastguard tasking. A five-metre RIB had issued a Pan Pan call after suffering engine failure off Broadhaven South and was drifting dangerously towards the rocks.

Fortunately, Coxswain Gary still got to spend the afternoon with his son, Eddie. Both crew members responded to the callout together.

The boat was quickly on the water and made best speed to the reported position, nine miles west of the station and once on scene, the engine of the casualty vessel was able to be started again.

With the engine now running, but concerns remaining among the occupants that it could fail once more, the Coxswain decided to escort the vessel back to the entrance of the Milford Haven Waterway.

Once at the mouth of the waterway, the occupants of the casualty vessel were confident they could safely make their way back to their mooring without further assistance. The lifeboat was therefore stood down and returned to station, arriving at 5.50pm.
