The event highlighted the work of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution), with funds raised going towards supporting volunteer training, essential kit, and the ongoing operation of Buckie lifeboat station. The day also saw support from local emergency services and charities, reflecting the strong community links that underpin the RNLI’s lifesaving work.

Throughout the afternoon, visitors enjoyed tours of the lifeboat station and lifeboat, as well as the chance to meet volunteer crew members and fundraisers. A range of stalls and raffles were available, alongside food vendors offering hot food, home bakes and ice cream. A popular attraction saw visitors testing their aim by throwing sponges at willing crew members and fundraisers.

The event concluded with a lifeboat demonstration in the harbour, where the lifeboat left its berth, manoeuvred in the basin, and sounded its horn to mark the end of the day. The weather remained favourable for the event, with sunshine throughout.

Anne Scott, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager at Buckie, said: ‘Our open day is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community that supports us so generously throughout the year. It’s always great to welcome people to the station, show them what we do, and help raise awareness of water safety. The funds raised make a real difference, helping ensure our volunteers have the training and equipment they need to continue saving lives at sea.’
