Tenby lifeboat assists vessel drifting off Freshwater East

Tenby's all-weather lifeboat was launched shortly after 8.30am on Saturday 4th July, following a report that a 21ft fishing vessel had suffered engine failure south of Freshwater East.


The lifeboat was on scene around 20 minutes later and found the vessel, which had two persons on board, drifting.
With the casualty vessel having no anchor, meaning leaving it would present a navigational hazard, the only option was to take the vessel in tow.

Once at Freshwater East and with the casualty vessel now safely on the shore, the lifeboat was then stood down to return to station, arriving at 9.40am.

When heading out onto the water, always make sure you have an anchor with enough chain and rope for the depth of water you will be operating in. It is also a good idea to take a means of contacting the Coastguard with you, such as a mobile phone or even better, a VHF radio.
