American singing star’s surprise visit to Lytham Inshore Lifeboat Station

Every year the Lytham Festival takes over Lytham Green to bring stars from around the world to perform to up to 25,000 music fans. The Lytham St Annes Inshore Lifeboat House on Central Beach is partly hemmed in by the festival site and therefore has possible difficult access during the actual performances by the famous singers and musicians. This does not affect the Inshore Lifeboat getting out if a rescue call takes place as special arrangements have been made with the festival organisers, but getting the crew to the boathouse quickly could be problematical.

To solve this, a volunteer duty D class crew stays at the boathouse during the performances to be ready immediately if needed. With stars in 2026 like Ronan Keating, Pet Shop Boys, Michael Bublé, Scissor Sisters and Alanis Morissette, as well as Teddy Swims among others entertaining over the five nights, it is not surprising that the venue is always full.

The volunteer crew were surprised and pleased when the headliner for the first night, USA star Teddy Swims, dropped in to see what the RNLI was all about and to chat with the volunteers. Teddy was obviously intrigued to see the station and find out as much as he could in an unplanned private visit.

The crew on duty all said what a great and friendly person he was and he showed a great deal of interest in the sea charity’s lifesaving work.
