Members of the Rotary Club of King's Lynn Trinity presented £250 to the hovercraft crew at Hunstanton RNLI when they returned from a training sortie on 18 January.

Club president John Hardy said the 18-strong club raises almost £10,000 a year, which is divided between good causes in the King's Lynn and West Norfolk area, along with international aid projects.

'The RNLI is an incredibly-important thing to support, especially in this area,' he added.

'They're looking after the local people, they're looking after the visitors, it's important they all feel safe along our coast.

'We're also supporting all the volunteers here, who give up their time.'

Rotarians met crew members, who told them more about their roles at the busy station and watched the hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer and lifeboat Spirit of West Norfolk returning to base after a two-hour combined exercise in the fog.

Both craft were swarmed by crew members to be washed down, checked and refuelled before being re-housed ready for service.

Hunstanton RNLI treasurer Jackie Merralls said the work of the crew and more than 200 like them around the coast of the UK and Ireland would not be possible without the kindness of those who support the charity that saves lives at sea.
