Swanage lifeboat Launch a Memory campaign is extended
The RNLI has announced that it will be extending its popular Launch a Memory campaign, allowing thousands more loved ones’ names to be added to Swanage RNLI’s Shannon class lifeboat.
The charity’s Launch a Memory campaign invites people to submit the name of a loved one to appear in the ‘decals’ – the lettering and numbering on the side of the all-weather lifeboat – in return for a suggested donation.
An incredible 10,000 names have already been submitted for inclusion on the Swanage RNLI Shannon class lifeboat, George Thomas Lacy; RNLI 13-13. From 26 February, members of the public will be able to commemorate a loved one by making a suggested donation of £75 and submitting that person’s name online, which will then be added to a third decal on the roof of the lifeboat’s wheelhouse.
Ruth Garratt, RNLI Marketing Manager, said: ‘Opening the wheelhouse decal for submissions means we will be able to welcome around a further 5,000 names to be added to the lifeboat. We know that supporters who have submitted names to previous Launch a Memory campaigns often take great comfort knowing that their name is alongside our crews when they receive a call for help, so it is wonderful to be able to offer that opportunity to many more people.
We look forward to seeing Swanage lifeboat’s roof decal filled with names to sit alongside those already submitted.’
Everyone who supports the campaign will receive a personalised digital certificate for each name that is added, email updates about the lifeboat and an opportunity to purchase a ticket to see the Swanage lifeboat up close at a special event at the All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole in September. Swanage RNLI’s Shannon is the eighth Launch a Memory lifeboat, with others based at Exmouth, Whitby, Anstruther, Wells, Clifden, Invergordon and a relief lifeboat, Eric’s Legend, which helps save lives all around the UK.
