Calshot RNLI welcomes new Lifeboat Operations Manager

Geoff was born and raised in Devon, trained as a naval architect at the University of Southampton and has recently retired from a thirty-six-year career in naval shipbuilding.

Alongside his work in this area, he also spent thirty years in the Royal Naval Reserve both in Southampton and Portsmouth, serving as a mine warfare officer, with duties including acting as Officer of the Watch and Navigating Officer.

In his spare time Geoff enjoys sailing out of Lymington with both a Wayfarer and a Laser dinghy and volunteers next door to Calshot Lifeboat station at the NCI Tower.

Of his appointment to the role, he said: ‘I have long been a supporter of the RNLI, ever since I watched the Sennen Cove lifeboat launch into the Fastnet Race storm in 1979 whilst on a family holiday there. During my naval architecture degree, I did industrial placements with the RNLI design team in Poole for two summers, which was a great experience. I'm delighted to be joining the fantastic team of volunteers at Calshot - the opportunity to be involved in the day to day running of a busy station is something that I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to!’
