Porthdinllaen All-Weather Lifeboat Assists Yacht in Difficulty

Launching with a full complement of volunteer crew, the Tamar-class lifeboat John D Spicer made best possible speed towards the casualty vessel's reported position.

While en route, further information was received that the yacht, carrying two people on board, was taking on water and had suffered engine failure. The volunteer lifeboat crew prepared the salvage pump ready for transfer to the casualty vessel if required.

Upon arrival, it was established that the ingress of water had been stopped. However, with no means of propulsion available, the yacht required assistance. The lifeboat crew successfully transferred a tow line to the vessel and, once secure, commenced a tow back to Porthdinllaen.

Arriving at approximately 1:30pm, the yacht was placed safely on a mooring within the harbour. Following confirmation that the two occupants wished to remain on board their vessel, the lifeboat was relieved of its duties and returned to station.

Coxswain Owain Williams added 'As always, we were glad to be of assistance today. Thanks to our colleagues at Holyhead Coastguard for providing detailed information regarding the casualty vessel. This allowed us to prepare accordingly while en route and ensured we were ready to respond to the situation on arrival.'
