Swim Safe Ayrshire Launch

Lifeboats News Release

Children love swimming outdoors, but swimming in the sea, rivers and lochs is very different from swimming in a heated indoor pool.

Swim Safe Ayrshire Launch
Since launching from a partnership between Swim England and the RNLI from a single site in 2013, Swim Safe has grown to include more than 30 sites across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

The Swim Safe programme teaches children how to identify safe places to swim, how to float and what to do if they or someone else gets into difficulty in the water.

Recently 21 people from across Ayrshire with a wide range of backgrounds from swimming teachers, lifesaving instructors, SUP paddling and windsurfing instructors and outdoor instructors came together to learn about Swim Safe from instructor Adam Goymer to deliver swimming safety sessions to young people.

Swim Safe Ayrshire is now being launched and delivered by a range of local partners in Ayrshire including The Outdoor Partnership, Adventure Carrick, Troon Water Sports Hub and our own Troon Lifeboat RNLI Water Safety Team.

Plans are now being put in place to deliver a Swim Safe programme starting soon at Barassie Beach.
