Porthdinllaen RNLI tasked to broken down fishing vessel
Porthdinllaen RNLI were tasked by HM Coastguard to a broken down, 9m local fishing vessel at a position approximately 8 miles north-west of the lifeboat station.
Porthdinllaen’s Tamar class all-weather lifeboat, John D Spicer, launched down the slipway with a compliment of volunteer crew onboard and made the best possible speed to the last known location of the vessel.
Once on scene it was found that the vessel, with two persons onboard, had suffered mechanical failure with no means of making it back to port. After assessing the situation and due to the risk of the vessel drifting towards local shipping lanes, Coxswain Owain Williams decided the safest course of action would be to tow the vessel back to Porthdinllaen Bay.
After securing the tow line, the lifeboat proceeded back to Porthdinllaen at a safe speed and the vessel was placed on a mooring within the bay, where repairs could be carried out. The lifeboat was refuelled and back on service by 1pm.
Coxswain Owain Willians added: ‘With the vessel suffering a burst oil pipe, the fishermen were unable to carry out repairs onboard and made the right decision in calling for assistance. As always, we were glad to be of service to be help them out.’
