Llandudno RNLI lifeboat assists stricken yacht in Conwy Bay

Lifeboats News Release

In the early hours of Saturday, 30 August, Llandudno’s All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was launched following a mayday call from a 36-foot yacht in Conwy Bay. The yacht was experiencing engine failure, unable to deploy its anchor, and drifting in the bay.

Conwy’s Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) arrived on scene, with another vessel in the area also responding to the distress call. However, due to the yacht’s size, the ILB requested assistance from Llandudno ALB.

The Llandudno crew arrived swiftly, rigged an alongside tow, and began the journey to Beacon’s Jetty. With the tide rapidly ebbing, the lifeboat carefully navigated the shallowing Conwy channel before securing the yacht alongside the jetty, assisted by Llandudno Coastguard.

Once the yacht was safely moored, the ALB departed the channel and returned to station for recovery, cleaning, refuelling, and preparation for its next service.
