Final preparations for Lytham St Annes RNLI Open Day on Saturday 30 August
The lifeboat station open day runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm at the Barbara Anne’s RNLI Boathouse on South Promenade (FY8 1SJ), next to the swimming Baths on Eastbank Road.
This is the one day in a year that the sea charity's boathouse is thrown open for the public to visit and view.
The inshore lifeboat (ILB) MOAM will be brought from her boathouse on Central Beach to join in, so people may view and compare the two state-of-the-art Lytham St Annes RNLI lifeboats. There will also be a chance to tour the all-weather Shannon class lifeboat Barbara Anne.
Volunteer crew members will be on hand and ready to answer questions and share details of the lifeboats and their launching methods. This event is put on in conjunction with the St Annes International Kite Festival, held on the same weekend, so there will be plenty for all to see.
Other emergency services, such as HM Coastguard, Ambulance and Fire & Rescue will attend to explain their equipment and their roles in saving lives in the community, dependant on operational requirements. There will be tombolas, games for children and adults, and a cafe and bar to make sure nobody goes hungry or thirsty. Live entertainment will carry on throughout the day.
Alison Young, Lytham St Annes Fundraising Branch Secretary said:
'It is a great chance for the public to learn about the RNLI and the sea charity’s rescue work, as well as have an enjoyable day out.'
