Let Mayday Begin
With the month of May just days away, Mayday is nearly here! All around Ireland and the UK, staff, volunteers and the public are getting ready to hold fundraising events or join organised activities to do their bit to fund our kit.
Thank you to everyone who may have already taken part in fundraising events, such as the London Marathon on 23 April and other collections. It’s great to have your support already!
Celebrities getting involved in Mayday
We’ve been able to get some fantastic support for our Mayday campaign from celebrities wearing some very recognisable footwear… our wellies!
Here is a picture of performers in London’s West End show STOMP who changed their stomping boots for our iconic yellow wellies:
Stomp performer Serena Morgan said: ‘I enjoyed wearing the RNLI’s iconic yellow wellies so much, that I wanted to take them home with me! It’s easy to forget how important water safety is and how valuable RNLI volunteer crew members are, so we want to inspire people to raise as much money for the charity as they can.’
Support for Mayday has also been given by the Ballater and District Pipe Band at Balmoral Castle who swapped their ghillie brogues for a sturdier option:
A talented troupe of Irish dancers who were competing in the 2017 World Irish Dancing Championships left their pumps behind as they danced in our yellow wellies:
Stay tuned to the Volunteer Facebook Page for more pictures of welly-related fun, and don’t forget to share your pictures as you take part in Mayday! If you’ve not yet joined the Volunteer Facebook Page, you can join the group here.
We know that many of you are taking part in events all across the UK and Ireland, and whether you’re doing a welly walk, buying a Mayday pin badge or holding a bucket to collect, it all helps save lives at sea – thank you for your support in advance.
