In conversation with Kellie Maloney
Join us for a special event to mark International Transgender Day of Visibility with former Boxing Promoter Kellie Maloney, Boxer Danny Baker and champion Jockey Victoria Smith.
The RNLI is delighted to be welcoming back Kellie Maloney for an online talk and Q&A to mark International Transgender Day of Visibility on Friday 31 March.
Kellie previously spoke to RNLI volunteers and staff back in 2021 to share her experiences of coming out. Formerly known as the Boxing Promoter, Frank Maloney, Kellie’s high-profile transition has seen her become a role model for the LGBT+ community and an award-winning advocate.
She will be joined by two transgender guests from the sporting world – Britain's first transgender Boxer Danny Baker, and champion Jockey Victoria Smith.
Danny and Victoria will be sharing their experiences as transgender athletes, talking about the hurdles they have had to overcome, their work/life experiences and the discrimination they have faced.
Neal Somerville, Chair of the RNLI’s LGBT+ Harbour Network, said:
‘It takes everyone to create an inclusive environment, and this is an important opportunity for us all to learn from Kellie, Danny and Victoria’s experiences and think about what we can all do to support trans people in our communities and places of work. As we prepare to launch the RNLI’s first ever Transgender Policy, I hope this conversation helps people to understand the reasons why we need proper support systems in place, including HR policies, networks and training.’
Date: Friday 31 March 2023
Time: 12-1pm
Location: Microsoft Teams.
