Do you know someone who has a passion for the RNLI, a good level of fitness, loves speaking to people and helping others?

Being an RNLI lifeguard could be just the job they are looking for!

Recruitment is open for our 2020 team, for both paid and volunteer roles.

Whether you know someone who could be a great lifeguard or not, you can help the RNLI recruit the lifeguards who’ll be keeping the beach safe this year.

What does lifeguarding involve?

Being an RNLI lifeguard puts people at the frontline of lifesaving. They patrol over 240 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands. In 2018, they assisted 32,207 people and saved 118 lives.

Lifeguards share safety advice with beachgoers to help prevent incidents before they happen and are there to rescue anyone who does get into trouble.

Successful applicants receive world-class training in search and rescue, lifesaving and casualty care techniques, good rates of pay and the chance to develop valuable skills for a future career.

It can be an ideal first step towards many career paths, including continuing to work for the RNLI or for a career in the emergency services.

What is it like to be an RNLI lifeguard?

Lee Fisher, Lifeguard Services Manager, says:

‘Working as a lifeguard is a unique and rewarding experience – it’s an opportunity to make a difference by helping to keep thousands of people safe when they are visiting the beach.

‘In 2020, we’ve introduced flexible working hours to make it easier for people to become part of our lifesaving team. We’re looking for people with courage, determination and the ability to draw on their training and make the right decision if someone’s life is in danger. It’s an incredibly rewarding role that’s open to people from all walks of life.

‘This is a demanding job requiring commitment, skill and a clear head, but one that can truly be life changing.’
