A new way for loved ones of operational lifeboat station volunteers to support one another.

We know that our volunteers display great amounts of courage and selflessness by supporting the RNLI and in fact our RNLI lifeboat crew and operational lifeboat station volunteers drop everything to respond to the sound of their pager to help make a difference. This can often mean giving up valuable family time. The families of lifeboat crew and operational lifeboat station volunteers also face unique challenges and experience extreme highs and lows when their loved ones go out to rescue.

With this in mind, the RNLI is looking at ways to provide more support to families and loved ones of operational volunteers and have recently launched the RNLI Families Facebook group. This is a private group just for close relatives of crew, shore crew, Deputy Launching Authorities and Lifeboat Operations Managers.  The online community will give them an opportunity to chat with other RNLI family members; it will provide them with support, friendship and more.  The group is open to the families of all crewmembers and operational volunteers at lifeboat stations.

The RNLI Families Facebook group is part of the Families Programme that aims to improve the way the RNLI engages with the families of its volunteers and is currently being piloted at lifeboat stations.

If you are or you know anyone who has family members of any of our operational lifeboat station volunteers, please invite them to join the new online community on Facebook.

Crewmembers and operational volunteers are not eligible for this group but can join the RNLI Volunteers Facebook Group.
