From 30 May to 9 July, we are pleased to announce that Nicholson’s pubs have joined forces with the RNLI to launch their Fish Festival, and promote water safety messages to customers across its entire network of 78 locations in the UK and Ireland.
This summer, Nicholson’s are teaming up via special promotions of their fish dishes, of which 50p will be donated to the RNLI, empowering staff with water safety advice to share with customers, and running additional fundraising and awareness activities.
Limited edition fish menu
Nicholson’s limited edition fish menu, developed especially for the partnership, will include the likes of ocean fish and chips with lemon sole, scampi and samphire; seafood stew; pot-roasted cod; grilled salmon niçoise salad; and soft shell crab. Plus, 50p from every dish purchased will go straight to the RNLI. Punters can also enjoy ‘Fish and Fizz’ - fish and chips and a glass of Prosecco (or Skinny Fizz) for just £13.95.
Nicholson’s staff are getting onboard with the RNLI
As well as the Fish Festival, Nicholson’s are promoting our Respect the Water campaign with its staff and customers to help us reach more people at risk. Our key message from this year’s campaign is to ask the public to ‘Fight your instincts, not the water’.
It reminds people of the risks but most importantly, provides them with the skills to survive for longer if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water. Our campaign tells them to fight their basic instinct to thrash about or swim if they enter the water unexpectedly, and instead tells them to stay calm and float, doing as little as possible until the initial cold water shock passes. While floating is an important skill, knowing what to do when someone is in trouble is also critical to this year’s campaign. We are urging people to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard if they see someone in trouble.
We have issued Nicholson’s and their 2,000 staff with pub packs so they can raise awareness of our water safety messages and prompt the conversation with their guests. In addition, Nicholson’s staff across its London waterside locations are taking part in our lifesaving ‘throw bag’ training to equip them with water safety techniques they can use to protect their guests.
Annette Middleton, marketing manager at Mitchell & Butlers for Nicholson’s, said: ‘We’re thrilled to support the RNLI’s Respect the Water campaign. Pubs are a thoroughly British institution, part of the very fabric of our culture, and we see the RNLI charity in exactly the same way. At Nicholson’s we place great emphasis on the safety of our customers, but supporting the RNLI gives us an opportunity to go beyond our customers and hopefully educate a wider audience about the potential dangers of water.’
Keep a look out over the next six weeks of Nicholson’s support and remember we all have a role in helping to prevent drowning, please pass it on. Find out more about our partnership with Nicholson’s Pubs
