The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched and proceeded to locate the casualty 10-meter long yacht that had a rope wrapped around her propeller in addition to the fouled mooring.

Once at the scene and having ensured that all was well with the two male crew aboard the craft. an assessment was made by the helmsman in consultation with the volunteer lifeboat crew member aboard the vessel and H.M. Coastguard as to the best course of action to be taken.

It was decided that once the fouled mooring was cleared that due to the strength of the tide and the vessel creating a navigation hazard in the strait for safety reasons the boat would be towed to Beaumaris pier this being the nearest place of safety.

Once this task had been completed the lifeboat was a released by the coastguard to return to her station at 7.53 pm to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed the crew left the station.

A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The yacht crew did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to their predicament. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.’
