'Solomon Browne' : Seth Lakeman's song about the Penlee lifeboat tragedy

Listen to a special live recording of Seth's stirring tribute song to the crew of the Solomon Browne.

On 19 December 1981, the crew of the Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne launched to try and rescue the crew and passengers onboard a stricken coaster. Battling huge waves and screaming winds, the brave lifeboat crew were able to pull four of the casualties onboard. Despite the intense conditions, the crew made one last attempt to rescue the remaining casualties. One last act of courage. Tragically, the lifeboat and all onboard were lost. It remains the last time the RNLI lost an entire crew in action.

Folk singer Seth Lakeman was moved by the story of the tragedy and has written a stirring song in tribute to those who lost their lives that day. Watch the video below for a special live performance of his track.
