Peterhead RNLI: Towed from tragedy

5 February. An easterly gale is blowing. The sea is stormy and treacherous. And a powerless fishing vessel is drifting dangerously close to the rocks off Peterhead Breakwater.

The lifeboat volunteers at Peterhead race to the rescue – but soon realise they have just one chance at getting a line across to tow the fishing vessel before it hits the rocks. Watch what happens next in this video:

It was Patrick Davidson’s first shout as coxswain. He says: 'This was a really tremendous effort by the crew showing great teamwork and seamanship by all involved in really difficult conditions. If we had arrived seconds later the boat would have hit the rocks and it may have been a different outcome.'

By making a donation, whatever you can afford, you can help make sure our crews are ready for the next rescue. Thank you, you're a lifesaver.
