The Severn class lifeboat has been saving lives with the RNLI since 1996. In the almost 25 years since it joined the fleet, Severn class lifeboats have launched over 16,538 times, aided 22,478 people and saved 912 lives. It's a vital part of the RNLI's lifesaving service. In this video, watch seven of the most dramatic rescues involving the Severn class lifeboat.

One of the rescues featured in the video is that of the Green Lily by Lerwick Lifeboat Station. Tragically, during the rescue efforts, Coastguard Winchman Bill Deacon lost his life.
