Fraserburgh Boxing Day harbour swim
An inclusive event aimed at swimmers and RNLI supporters to participate in a challenging swim across the harbour on Boxing Day.
This annual challenge event, now in it’s tenth year, is an inclusive event aimed at swimmers and RNLI supporters, as we ask them to participate in our Boxing Day Harbour Swim.
The aim is to engage local supporters, swimming groups and like-minded individuals so that they sign up for the event and fundraise through a mix of online and physical methods, all raising funds for the RNLI, and Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station in particular.
As COVID-19 is currently, and not expected to be, have legal implications in place, we’ll still be looking to have additional safety measures in place, such as the availability of hand sanitiser and limiting numbers in enclosed spaces.
Participants will arrive at Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station, where they will be met at a check-in tent to ensure all entrants are fully registered. From there, they will be brought into the upstairs crew room for a full safety briefing, before taken downstairs to get changed ready for the event. A full warm-up will be included before participants make their way to the boat for their swim.
Toilets and showers will be available, and we will also have our RNLI Shop open selling souvenirs, as well as a refreshments tent, offering a range of hot drinks and snacks for a donation. Parking options are limited at the harbour and we do ask that participants and viewers make their way to the Station on foot where possible.
Participants will be able to arrive to check-in for the event from 11:30, where a separate table will be available for those registering on the day. Starting and finishing points are clearly marked and the route is very clear as a 52-metre stretch across the Outer Balaclave Basin in front of the Lifeboat Station. First Aid provision will be available on the day and there will be extensive safety support from crew members on the day both on a supporting inflatable boat, as well as both entry and exit points of the event area.
A red route is clearly marked within the Event Management Plan (EMP) and parking limited in this area throughout the duration of the event. The main Event Organiser locally will be the full-time Coxswain/Mechanic at Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station, Victor Sutherland, who has been involved in the planning and running of each annual event so far. His main contact email is [email protected]. From the point of registration, participants will be sent a welcome email, as well as further information t weekly intervals from one-month out, e.g. 4 weeks to go, 3 weeks to go, 2 weeks to go, 1 week to go.
Final information will be sent out to all participants on Xmas Eve. An automated email upon registration will be required or any last-minute sign-ups via Eventbrite.
