Maldon Fundraising Branch
Chairman's Report 2019
Our annual ‘Thank You’ Sherry Morning in February was very well attended, which gave me the opportunity to personally thank many of the people who help us raise our excellent total. We were supported by our President, Cllr Stephen Nunn, Vice President Cllr Richie Miller and Town Mayor, Jeanette Stilts, along with her Consort Peter Stilts. All these people have been brilliant at actively encouraging the ongoing work of Maldon Branch
Our main fundraising event is, of course, the Sponsored Row, which was held in January. It was again a big team effort between Flag Officers, Committee and members of Maldon Little Ship Club, and friends and supporters of Maldon Branch RNLI. It was a great day, planned and run by John and Di Rogers and as you may have seen in the local press, we managed to top the magic figure of £10,000. The two biggest fundraisers were able to come to the Sherry Morning where we had a photo opportunity with ‘big’ cheques, and I could also deliver my heartfelt thanks for their hard work.
Due to the tides, we will actually have two Sponsored Rows in 2019, the next one being held on 28 December!
Our small Committee continue to work hard, but we have shrunk a little during the year, so I used the Sherry Morning as an opportunity to ask for more Committee members. We have lots of people who are very willing to shake a bucket in the High Street or at a Store Collection, but not so many willing and able to attend for an hour or so a month. Hopefully we will gain a new Committee member or two during the coming year?
We also have wonderful help and support from many local Sailing Clubs, large and small, please keep up the good work, it is appreciated.
Community Support at Tesco, Maldon – Rhiann Oakley – continues to help us as often as she can, in December she provided us with a quantity of boxes of chocolates for a raffle hamper prize.
Our recent Lifeboat Supper held at Maldon Little Ship Club was well supported by MLSC and Tollesbury SC, and thanks to their support we made a pleasing surplus which can go to our 2019 total.
Lastly it is great to have our own Souvenir Stall, ably run by Anne Scott and we hope to attend some new events, along with old favourites, over the coming year.
STOP PRESS. The final figure raised at the Sponsored Row was an amazing £10,300. Thank you most sincerely to everyone involved
The branch urgently needs a Souvenir Secretary.
