Chief Information Officer (CIO) - Director

Ian has been Chief Information Officer, Chief Technical Officer and Data Privacy Officer leading technology programmes of more than 5,000 staff spanning 40 countries worldwide for over 15 years and has a passion for fostering collaboration and innovation to exploit the benefits of technology and data.

He has joined the RNLI to create and deliver the RNLI’s digital, information and technology strategy that is vital to the smooth running and evolution of the many systems we rely on including our complex Lifeboat systems, and the new programmes that ensure our supporters’ data is securely protected. As our Interim CIO, Ian is working closely with RNLI teams in examining the benefits and capabilities from our use of digital technology for future fundraising, developing predictive analytics, to build and support strong operations, safe missions with state-of-the-art tools and producing ongoing data-based insights that will help the RNLl to break the chain of events that can tragically lead to drowning.

Ian is a Fellow of the UK's Chartered Institute of IT. He is actively involved mentoring digital startups. By devoting time to assisting emerging businesses and small investments to advance, Ian’s aim is to help grow the digital ecosystem.

Ian has enjoyed being a musician and a private pilot and now enjoys being ‘down to earth’ leading RNLI teams to make his own contribution to the reduction of global drowning.
