Finance Director (Acting)
Darren Spivey has spent much of his working life at the RNLI, working in all areas of Finance from investment management to financial reporting. He has been at the RNLI over 20 years and been involved in a variety of successful projects, both financial and non-financial. As a result, he has visited over half of the lifeboat stations and met over half the branch treasurers. In terms of financial achievements, of particular pride have been the amalgamation of over 1,000 branch bank accounts into a centralised account; the establishment of a stable financial investment strategy; and a number of VAT reclaims averaging £1M each year and culminating in the rebate of all VAT costs, saving the RNLI around £5M each and every year.
Darren is also an active member in the charity finance sector. He has represented the RNLI on the Charity Tax Group for over a decade, a group that represents the sector on charity tax matters to HMRC and the Treasury. He is also a member of the Charity SORP Committee, a body that helps to sethe rules on charity accounting through the Charity SORP.
Darren is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants. He is married with four children, lives in south Dorset and enjoys sport, reading and spending time with his family.
