Logos

Within this section we provide examples of full colour and single colour logos. If you need to obtain one of the logos please contact Publications and Design team on 01202 662254.

There are rules about how each logo must be used both on its own and with each other. Please check the rules about the use of each logo separately.

Stormforce

There are two versions of the Storm Force logo, with and without the strapline 'The Lifeboats club for children'. Wherever possible the Storm Force logo should appear with the Lifeboats logo in which case it should appear without the strapline. The strapline version should only be used when the Lifeboats logo cannot appear.

The logo is available on several colourways and the red background shown here is only used as an example.

All the logos have a white border around them enabling them to stand out against a variety of backgrounds. The same artwork is used when a Storm Force logo appears on a white background although the border will not be visible.

Minimum clear space

An area of clear space should be kept around all versions of the logo. This area should be free of type, photographs or any other graphic elements.

The amount of clear space below, above and to either side of the logotype must be at least the height of the 'F' in Storm Force. The rectangle around the logo shows the minimum clear space. When the strapline is used the area of clear space must be extended.

Minimum size

The minimum size for printing the Storm Force logo is 8mm in width.
If you are using the strapline version of the logo a minimum size of 20mm width is recommended.
For other methods of reproduction such as embossing or foil blocking a larger minimum size is preferable.

Storm Force logo colourways

The only permitted single colour reproduction is in RNLI blue (Pantone 281) or black. The logo cannot be reproduced solely in RNLI red(032), RNLI orange (021) or any other colour.

Only use a single colour logotype when you cannot use full colour, for example, in a recruitment advertisement in a newspaper or stationery produced in only one colour. The full colour versions of the logo should be used whenever possible.

The Storm Force logo can be reproduced in five different colourways with the 'sea' part of the design printed in either RNLI red (032), RNLI yellow (109), or Pantones 361, 3115, or 321. The boat appears in RNLI blue (281) and orange (021) on all colourways. Detailed colour specifications can be found by clicking here.

Each of these colourways is equally valid and the choice of which colour to use should depend of the application and the design. For example, the logo with a red background may work well on a leaflet about Lifeguards whereas an aqua (3115) background may be better suited to a leaflet about rescues at sea.

Where the logo is used on applications that talk about all aspects of the RNLI, for example Storm Force News, all five colourways can be used equally to create a lively, vibrant and colourful identity. For example, the Storm Force badges could be different colours depending on how many years a child has been a member.

The Storm Force lettering must be reproduced with:

white lettering on an RNLI red (032) or Pantones 361 or 321 background

or

RNLI blue (281) lettering on Pantone 109 or 3115 background.

Artwork for all the logos shown is available with the strapline included, although they are not shown here. Whatever logo colourway is used the strapline may only be reproduced in RNLI blue (281), white or black (with the black logo only) depending on the background.

All the logos have a white border around them enabling them to stand out against a variety of backgrounds. The same artwork is used when a Storm Force logo apears on a white background although the border will not be visible.

Storm Force Don'ts

This page shows some mistakes that should be avoided when using the Storm Force logo. If you are not sure about an application contact your brand champion:

Do not create new colourways of the logo. There is no RNLI blue and orange version. The only permitted colourways are shown in Colourway.

Do not create a solid one colour version of the logo. The one colour versions must be reproduced in the correct tints. The only exception to this is for foil blocking.

The white outline must appear whenever the logo appears on a coloured background.

The words 'The Lifeboats club for children' must appear under the logo in the size and position shown in logo.

The boat cannot appear separately from the rest of the logo.

The 'sea' part of the logo cannot be cropped nor can the Storm Force lettering be omitted.

The Lifeboats logo can only appear with the Storm Force logo  in the size and positions shown in logo. No graphics, type or other objects should be placed within the minimum clear space area.

The Storm Force lettering cannot be used as part of a phrase or sentence.

  • The lettering for this logo is set in Bliss.

  • As with all the logos the letters have been specially spaced and cannot be matched by a typesetter so always use the master artwork.

  • The wording Family association is in RNLI dark blue or white depending on the background.

  • The RNLI flag is always ranged to the right of the wording.

  • Colour specifications can be found within the colours section.

Every logo has a set of full colour, reversed out and mono versions available. If you need to obtain one of the logos for agreed design usage please contact your area brand champion who will have all the relevant files and will have the authorisation to pass on the logos where necessary.

The RNLI Heritage Trust logo must never be used on its own. It must always be used in conjunction with the core Lifeboats logo.

The Heritage Trust logo is made up of slightly different elements to the other existing logos. It still uses the font  Bliss, but instead of having the assisting RNLI flag graphic, it has a heritage graphic making up the logo.

It has been especially designed to hold a separate look and feel but it must always be seen with the core Lifeboats logo on all publications/communications.

As with all the logos the letters have been specially spaced and cannot be matched by a typesetter so always use the master artwork.

The RNLI is now a member of the Fundraising Standards Board who are an independent UK-wide charity regulator for fundraising complaints that supporters/volunteers feel have not been resolved satisfactorily with the RNLI directly.

To demonstrate the RNLI’s commitment to provide the highest level of customer service, application of the FRSB scheme logo is mandatory for all RNLI fundraising materials that contain overt and implied ‘asks’ for financial or voluntary support.

Where appropriate and space permitting, the promotional strapline: ‘give with confidence’ can be also be used to support the FRSB scheme logo.

The Lifeboat College logo must be used on its own. It should not be used in conjunction with the core Lifeboats logo.

  • The lettering for all this logo is set in FF DIN.

  • The wording The Lifeboat College is created using the RNLI dark blue/white and orange depending on the background.

As with all the logos the letters have been specially spaced and cannot be matched by a typesetter so always use master artwork.

Colour

Lifeguards has RNLI yellow as its principal colour and should normally be reproduced on a yellow or white background.

See colour palette for colour specifications.

Other colours from the colour palette can be used to support the principal colours.

Use

The Lifeguards logo should be used when an application is solely about lifeguards or the Lifeguards service.

The Lifeguards logo must not be used with the Lifeboats logo and it should not be used when more than one area of the organisation is featured, in which case the Lifeboats logo should be used instead.

All RNLI stationery uses the Lifeboats logo. There is no Lifeguards branded stationery.

As with all the logos the letters have been specially spaced and cannot be matched by a typesetter so always use master artwork.

Only use the membership logos one at a time. The Shoreline membership logo should only be used when an application is solely about Shoreline membership and if an application covers more than one membership brand use the core Lifeboats logo. For example, a leaflet about all the membership options should use the core Lifeboats logo only.

The Shoreline membership logo uses the same colour palette as the Lifeboats logo.
