However, the day was not a washout, thanks to the support of the public we have made £5,000 on the day which enables us to carry on our vital work of saving lives at sea.
Lifeboats News Release
Hundreds of people turned out on Sunday 5 August, to support Happisburgh’s annual Lifeboat Day.
The event started with displays from Happisburgh’s two lifeboats joined by Gorleston’s lifeboat, Samarbeta, and an RAF Rescue Helicopter from Wattasham to demonstrate how the RNLI volunteer crews work together and with other rescue teams. On the cliff top the crowds enjoyed all the fun of our fete day including Happisburgh’s Spirit of Berkhamsted displayed on the field, Stalham Fire service with their fire engine, Happisburgh and Mundesley Coastguard and RNLI lifeguards.During the afternoon the station was presented with cheques from Charles Clark Classic Car Rally and Iceni Chapter Norfolk who had held events to raise money for our station.People enjoyed the hog roast, all the stalls and entertainment until the heavens opened and a heavy rain storm swept across the field making it difficult to continue. However, the day was not a washout, thanks to the support of the public we have made £5,000 on the day which enables us to carry on our vital work of saving lives at sea.The station would like to thank all those who supported us today and the many volunteers who helped to stage the event; without their help the day would not have been such a great success.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. Our volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland from 236 lifeboat stations, including four along the River Thames and inland lifeboat stations at Loch Ness, Lough Derg, Enniskillen and Lough Ree. Additionally the RNLI has more than 1,000 lifeguards on over 180 beaches around the UK and operates a specialist flood rescue team, which can respond anywhere across the UK and Ireland when inland flooding puts lives at risk.
The RNLI relies on public donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. As a charity it is separate from, but works alongside, government-controlled and funded coastguard services. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 our lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved at least 140,000 lives. Volunteers make up 95% of the charity, including 4,600 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 3,000 volunteer shore crew. Additionally, tens of thousands of other dedicated volunteers raise funds and awareness, give safety advice, and help in our museums, shops and offices.
